PASTOR GLEN'S BLOG
January 2, 2019

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Patterson’s farm. It was so serene to look out over the hills and see sheep grazing. What a beautiful pastoral image! However, Pat shared about predators who attack the sheep, including coyotes and even dogs.

As there are predators of sheep, so there are also predators all around you and me. They come by way of false teachers and false teaching. As we read in Acts 20:29, “I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock.” Paul was aware of the false teachers who would come among people, espousing a different gospel.

Jesus shared in Matthew 7:15, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” There are so many false prophets and teachers all around us today; and it is easy to become lulled into believing their lies through various cults and sects and even among “well-meaning” church leaders. That is why one of the requirements of church leaders is to guard the flock from these false teachers and teachings.

As shepherds of sheep need to beware and on the lookout for predators, so under-shepherds of the Lord (church leaders) are to feed their sheep with solid biblical teaching from God’s Word, as they also watch out for those who speak “twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them” (Acts 20:30).

My encouragement to all of us is to get so used to the truth of God’s Word, so that anything counterfeit will be spotted in an instant!! Therefore, as we begin this New Year, please pray for church leaders in order that they may teach the truths of God’s Word with urgency and passion, as well as protect the flock of God’s people from false teaching!!
