This Week at HOPE!

July 10, 2019

We all go through trials and challenges in life. Perhaps some of you are going through a particularly hard time in your life right now! Some of you today may be grieving over the loss of a loved one; or you have experienced the pain of a family member or friend who abandoned you . . . maybe in a time you most needed them; or you may know the hurt of a child or grandchild who is making decisions that are life threatening and destroying a brighter and more hopeful future. So, what do you do in these instances, when you don’t know what to do – when you’re hurting and in pain? Trusting that Jesus is ultimately in control of our lives offers the most comfort.

Jesus on the cross is God’s response to the pain and injustice from which we suffer. His shed blood is our source of comfort, forgiveness, and daily sustenance and purpose. The Apostle Paul learned to respond to hard times the same way:

We read in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, “So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

So, when our life seems riddled with challenges and we do not know where to turn, may we trust that King Jesus is sovereign. He is in control of our lives, including all the challenges we face . . . even when we do not feel like it at all!!

Please pray for the people in Augusta County who will hear the gospel and for those who will go out to share!

THIS SUNDAY - Join us for worship at 9:30am! Pastor Glen’s message will be, “Exalting God,” based upon Exodus 8-10.  Please read the text prior to the service. Nursery care and elementary classes are provided on the Chapel floor during the 9:30am worship service.

Adult Sunday School class - You are invited to come join our adult Bible study class immediately following worship in the chapel on the second floor. We are studying the book of Nehemiah using the book “Nehemiah,” by Dr. Stephen Davey, to help us explore this beautiful story of God providing leadership for His people, especially in rebuilding the wall around Jerusalem, and calling them back into relationship with Him. Come join us, we have extra books available.

New Prayer Group - As an outgrowth from the adult SS class’s study of the gifts of the Holy Spirit while studying I Corinthians, a new small group will be meeting weekly on Tuesday evenings at 7 PM at Sid Langrall’s home, 704 Pine St. The small group is open to all members of our church body. This small group will be focused on prayers for Hope Community Church and on individual needs as they are brought to us, utilizing the gifts of the Holy Spirit to deliver God’s best for this body of believers. Any questions about this small group can be directed to Sid or Pat Patterson.

“Exploring Hope” Class - The class will be held on two successive Sundays…THIS Sunday, July 14th and July 21st. In this class, we explore topics such as: why we exist as a church, spiritual growth, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, how to become a member, and the privileges and responsibilities of church membership.
